How Deal With Navicular Horses Disease

By Kathleen Collins

For all the horse owner, have a healthy animal is the most important thing. If your one was diagnosed with navicular horses disease, the first thing that you need to be aware of is that it is not terminal. As with runners who have trouble with their feet, it doesn t mean they cannot run again, it means they need to take care of their feet, so they can run again. The same applies here.

If you first start to notice that there is a problem, you should take it to the nearest vet. They will be able to have x-rays done as well as do physical exams that will help them to get to the problem. The main sign that you need to look out for is whether there is lameness on any of the legs, typically the front and whether they are struggling to walk properly or may even stumble.

Once they confirm the diagnoses, you will now need to get in touch with markers of hoof shoes and get specific types made. What happens is the stallion will avoid landing on his heel and will put pressure on his toe instead, which can result in further damage. This is why you have special shoes made so it can walk and land properly. It is also made much tighter so there are no loose ends to cause the hoof to lift up from the shoe.

Before you get the shoes made, try to get the exact size of the hoof to the manufacturer as soon as you can. Many makers assume that it is the same size for all breeds in the same group but this is not true and you could be ordering something that is too big or too small and this can cause even more discomfort to the stallion, not to mention the admin of you getting a new one done.

As with humans, exercise is important and if you let the injury stand with no help, it can worsen. It will help to ride your horse every day for at least an hour however, this should be controlled, and you have to make sure that they are putting more weight on their hind legs rather than the front. This takes patience and you also need to have experience.

If you don t, the best would be to hire a trainer who can help with these specific injuries. They are skilled and have done this many times before which means that you are leaving your stallion in good hands. They will also make sure that they don t add strain or pressure and can notice signs of pain and I they are tired. This will make sure that there is no further injury.

You will always need the right advice, and not only will you use a trainer, but you will also want other expertise such as from your vet and from specialists who are experts with the disease. You want to be able to speak to people who understand the condition and can give you the best advice.

It is important to understand the injury so that you can have it treated accordingly. Managing their condition is vital and to keep their health in order.
