Information On Balding Solutions For Men Oklahoma Residents May Find Useful

By Jennifer Russell

The common cause of a receding hairline in men is aging. This is physiological as a result of a drop in hormonal levels as the man ages. Genetics also plays a big role in the causation of balding heads. Balding can therefore occur even among the young if they are genetically predisposed. Some men may not find it a bother because they have other remarkable features in the face that enhance the look. Unfortunately, this may not be true for every man, therefore, solutions for those not contented with their receded hairline would go a long way in keeping them happy. When looking for balding solutions for men Oklahoma residents need to know a number of things beforehand.

Miniaturization is the scientific process behind baldness. In miniaturization, the hair undergoes shrinkage every time it is acted upon by specific hormones. Shrinking results in thinning of hair. Over a long period of time, the hair thins out completely and baldness becomes the outcome. The crown of the head and the front part have a high genetic predisposition to hormone sensitivity. The hormone behind miniaturization is dihydrotestosterone, DHT. Dihydrotestosterone comes from testosterone hormone through action of the enzyme alpha reductase.

One of the important drugs used in management of hair loss is minoxidil. Although this drug was initially meant for treating hypertension, it was noted to cause hair growth in other places other than the scalp, pubic region or armpits. This can be explained by the fact that minoxidil works by causing dilation of blood vessels. When applied topically on the affected area, the flow of blood to this region is increased.

For effectiveness in treating alopecia, minoxidil needs to be used directly on the surface with hair loss. In addition, it should also be used continuously because hair growth is reversed once the medication is discontinued. This is because it has no effect whatsoever on the hormone dihydrotestosterone. It only acts by increasing blood flow to the skin and thus providing nourishment to hair follicles for growth.

Finasteride is the other drug that is of benefit to men with alopecia (hair loss). It is primarily used for reducing the size of an abnormally large prostate. It works by inhibiting the enzyme five alpha reductase type two. This in turn results in a reduction in the amount of dihydrotestosterone and therefore minimal damage to hair follicles.

In treating alopecia, finasteride should be use faithfully to ensure the results are sustained since the enzyme only remains inactive as long as the drug is in action. Initiating treatment when there is already severe loss of hair is almost ineffective because finasteride does not work on already destroyed follicles. Therefore, to be sure of hair growth renewal, one should act early on when the signs of a receding hairline begin to show.

Perhaps a more permanent way of dealing with alopecia is hair transplantation. This is done surgically under local or general anaesthesia depending on how severe the baldness. Some of the good hairs at the back of the head are harvested and transferred to the front where the follicles have been damage. The new follicles ultimately regenerate new hair strands and hence hair becomes uniformly distributed throughout the head.

Hair transplantation procedure poses the risk of causing infection and scarring to the individual. It has the benefit of restoring uniformity of hair distribution across the entire surface of the head. This approach is is a more permanent balding solution compared to the pharmacological approach of treatment. Laser treatment is an additional alternative that can be explored.
