An Overview Of Independent Medical Practice Resources

By Ann Meyer

Opening a private practice is not always an easy task for new or existing physicians. Whereas, the association of independent medical practice resources is attempting to make it easier. In addition, it could also be the right move for new graduates and others as there is a huge shortage of doctors and medical staff currently working in the private sector.

Due to the number of private practices which have been acquired or sold to hospitals and equity firms, the sector is now facing critical conditions. For, the doctors whom worked so hard to open these practices become nothing more than employees. It is a trend which is not beneficial or healthy for doctors, and is one which is hurting the already ailing United States health care network.

Studies have shown that when this happens, health care costs often go up while quality goes down. Whereas, access to care can be limited or lost, thus leaving doctors feeling less satisfied while communities are left vulnerable to a higher rate of illness and financial difficulty. The situation has become so dire that The Association of Independent Doctors or AID, is now attempting to stop and prevent these take overs from happening in the future.

Insurance companies and premiums are also effected by these acquisitions. For example, studies show that there has been a twenty to forty percent increase in American Health Care Insurance premiums since the beginning of the take over trend. As a result, the association sees these acquisitions as unacceptable, especially in a country where a number of individuals can not afford health care.

The association, a national non-profit trade organization has members in over half of the United States. The group works to raise awareness among doctors about the negative aspects which occur to the health care system when hospitals buy and consolidate those working in private practice. For, in large part, the trend is not to improve health care but rather to reduce competition among providers.

The association was created by two certified public accountants in 2013 whom were frustrated with the trend. After which, the association has provided a voice for doctors, medical staff and others negatively impacted whom previously had no collective voice. In addition, the association is taking to steps to slow, if not stop the trend as soon as possible.

Physicians, clients and others can discover more about AID by visiting the organization's website. Whereas, doctors and other visitors to the site can view a number of videos to learn how to help stop these take overs from happening. After which, AID hopes that a number of new medical school graduates, and those whom have been working in clinics and hospitals will either open a new private practice or re-open a former one.

Ultimately, these take overs are destroying the American health care system which is already ailing due to the cost of high premiums, out-of-reach prescription costs and a lack of medical staff, clinics and hospitals. In order to promote better health care in the future, doctors and the American people need to stand up to hospitals and private equity groups whom are causing these and other issues.
